Over the last few months as Zaiya has been transforming from baby to toddler, many people have commented on his calm demeanor. He is quite the social butterfly, it will come to no surprise to most of you! His eyes light up at every opportunity to laugh and giggle with someone new. The minute someone with a smile and a settled heart reaches out their arms to him, he becomes a little love sponge!
He can stay focused for more time than you'd think (you know, he's... smarter than the average 16 month old of COURSE) as long as he's putting something together! :) His favorite toys are buckles these days. We just put together his new, big boy car seat and he sat in it for 15 minutes trying to put the new buckles together in the house. Of course, it also won't surprise you that he can also dance like he knows the next beat comin'... he gets that from me, obviously. ;) We are continued to be amazed that he seems to have absolutely no fear... of anything or anyone and we love doing nothing these days but following him around and watching him explore and share and laugh and learn.
Many of his new characteristics are childhood delights... the things we wish we didn't have to outgrow! But when people tell me how my child has a gentle spirit, how easily he adjusts to new people and places... I never hesitate to give credit where credit is due... and he doesn't get that from me! Zaiya looks so much like his daddy that when we put him in his car seat and he sees himself in front of the car mirror, he almost always says, "Dadda, dadda, dadda!?" I realize that my child doesn't really look anything like me - you can't really compete with the Obas genes... I learned that quite some time ago! But I'm not going to complain because... look how adorable he is?? Marc and I are both such determined people and we have both been striving to make sure our son is surrounded by love. So in that spirit, I thought I'd post a tribute to the man my child gets his calm disposition from. I've benefited quite a bit over the years from it myself! Marc is a fabulous daddy who is constantly keeping us grounded and thankful for everything we have when it is so easy to focus on what we lack. I am so blessed to be able to watch their father-son bond flourish, especially in these early years. There really is nothing like watching the two boys that I love most in the world laughing and growing together. I took the above picture after we'd returned from the rare family outing! We are both still working so much with opposite schedules that we only have one day out of the week to spend together as a family. We are starting to treasure that more and more. Magic moments like the one I captured in this sweet picture are what keep my heart pumping...more pics of this fabulous team...

Filling Daddy's shoes!
Seriously his whole little body could fit in one of those big boots! Love it!
I love how small he still looks next to his daddy... keeps him little longer :)

Awesome pic and tribute. Love it!! It's the small things in life that count. Enjoy your family time (even if it's only 1 day a week).
ReplyDeleteThanks honey for these kind words; you are the best mother Zaiya could of wish for and a great wife that any men would die for.
